logradov-Turin, Dr Jelena is an asociate professor at the Department of Astronomy at the University of Beograd. Born in 1935, in Beograd. Graduated physics at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Beograd, in 1959. She got her MSc. degree at the University of Manchester (U.K.), in 1972, and her Ph.D. at the University of Beograd, in 1982. The title of the M.Sc. thesis is "The Survey of the Region 6h>α>19h, -25°<δ<70° and the Ph. D. thesis is "The Sky Survey at 38 MHz and the Galactic Spectral Index".
She has been employed at the Faculty of Sciences in Beograd, since 1960, at first as an assistent, later, since 1983 as a lecturer, and since 1989 as an associate professor. She was assistent for General Astrophysics, Practical Astrophysics, Basic Stellar Astronomy, Theoretical Astrophysics, Astronomical teaching practicum, Radio Astronomy, Basics of Astrophysics and Mathematics. She is professor of Radio Astronomy and History and Teaching of Astronomy now.
She was a postgraduate student at the University of Manchester (1996-1968), and a visiting student at the University of Cambridge (U.K.) in summer 1979.
Her basic research field is Galactic Radio Astronomy and recently History of Yugoslav Astronomy.
She is the member of the IAU and the national representative in the Commission No 46 of the IAU for Teaching of Astronomy. She has been the member of the National Committee for Astronomy (1987-1991, 1996-).
She published 41 scientific papers in national and international journals, and presented papers at 31 national and international conferences. She has published 22 papers on teaching astronomy and history of teaching astronomy in Yugoslavia. She is the coauthor (with Dr I. Atanasijevic) of the textbook "Selected Subjects in Stellar Astronomy".
She has written 37 popular astronomy papers. She has been the member of the editorial board of the yugoslav magazine for popularization of astronomy Vasiona since 1969, its chief editor since 1975 to 1983 and the deputy editor from 1996 to 1997. Under her supervision 38 students have published their literature projects written within the course of Teaching and History of Astronomy. She has been the member of the editorial board of the magazine for elementary and secondary school students Young Physicist since 1994. She was very active teaching astronomy in the Astronomical Society "Ruđer Bošković", Petnica Science Center, public universities, secondary schools, seminars, radio and television programs. She was awarded the medal of the Kolarčev Memorial Foundation in Beograd for popularization of astronomy. She has been the member of the directory board of the Astronomical Society "Ruđer Bošković" since 1969. She was the director of the Public Observatory and Planetarium in Beograd, since 1995 till 1999.
She is the president of the Society of Astronomers of Serbia since 1998.
